The twenty hour Restorative Trainings are rich exploration to inform the personal study as well as teaching skills of each student. In the thirty five and forty hour trainings students will learn the joys of restorative yoga through first-hand experience of the postures, and will also learn hands on experience in how to teach students of all levels. Also, students will learn the Ayurvedic, physiological, emotional, and biomechanical elements of each pose.
An extensive repertoire of beginner as well as advanced postures will be passed on to students according to the length of each training with the detail necessary to bring depth and life changing benefits to students. How to set up the postures in detail, as well as modify for a class with less props will be explored.
This twenty hour restorative training will be held from September 27th to the 29th. The training will run from 6pm to 9pm on Friday the 27th, and from 9am to 5pm on Saturday the 28th and Sunday the 29th.
The cost to attend this program is $400 if you register prior to August 15th, 2019, or $450 if you register after August 15th, 2019.
Andrea Peloso has been offering courses based on her extensive experience assisting Judith Lasater as well as other teachers for over a decade and has been studying with Judith and teaching Restorative since 2004. In the context of this course we will be studying the science of the nervous system as well as Ayurveda and many different postures in different variations.
- Basics of Restorative Yoga
- Understanding the Nervous System: Parasympathetic and Sympathetic. How
Restorative Yoga Affects the Nervous System.
- The well-propped pose: to prop or not to prop and why?- Stress related disorders, and how they can be caused by an imbalanced nervous system.
- Understanding the role of traditional wisdom and scientific understanding as it informs the Restorative Yoga Practice.
- Restorative Yoga and the 5 senses. Exploring these concepts practically through practice.
Elements of Support and Adjustments:
- The psychology of deep support.
- The pranas and their relationship to Restorative Yoga.
- The role of mindfulness in the Restorative yoga practice.
- A detailed look at proper support of the hands, knees, back, pelvis, arms, and neck in Savasana and elevated chest pose.
- Use of blankets to move and support of the body.
- Art of touch.
- Adjustments with blankets.
- Stimulating the parasympathetic nervous system with either props or adjustments.
- Use of weights, sandbags, smaller seed bag weights.
Teaching a deep Restorative practice without deep experience is impossible and also no fun! We will delve into our own practices with a real understanding of how to “come down the hill” of chemical buildup of stress and begin a new relationship with our bodies.
Creating truly safe (or safest-possible) spaces where our students can thrive is an art that requires practice, curiosity, and empathy that starts with ourselves. We will dive into all of these pieces and enrich our relationships with ourselves, our students, and our broader community.
Smitten with yoga at age 15 and teaching since age 22, Andrea has 18 years of teaching experience and over 2000 hours of yoga training with many senior teachers including Ramanand Patel, Francois Raoult, Chuck Miller and Maty Ezraty. She has more than 800 hours of study with Judith Lasater who she has assisted and studied with since 2004.
Andrea served as an faculty at George Brown College for 5 years as a lecturer and creating curriculum on critical thinking and cultural analysis before her yoga teaching practice drew her out of city. She shares yoga in Canada and in the United States, Japan, Europe and Oceania offering teacher trainings and workshops in Restorative Yoga, Applied Anatomy, Asana, and full teacher trainings. She has a degree in Philosophy including Eastern and Indian Philosophy. Her articles and podcasts can be found online.
